Antognolla Golf stages IV Antognolla Open tournament

On Saturday October 9th, Antognolla Golf staged another edition of its perennially successful ‘Antognolla Open’ tournament. In only its fourth year, the tournament continues to grow with competitors battling it out to win the specially commissioned Antognolla Open Perpetual Cup. The eventual winner was Paolo Natali who overcame windy conditions to be crowned the champion. Incidentally, Paolo won the very first itineration of this event.

The Antognolla Open Tournament is an invitation only event for Antognolla Golf’s members and business partners and this year totalled over 120 guests. It is designed to showcase all that is great about the resorts and to provide valuable insights into the vision for the future. Not to mention being able to enjoy the golf course – the Robert Trent Jones Jr masterpiece which has quickly become recognised as one of the premier golf clubs in Italy.

Bookending the golf, we also staged a golfing masterclass with Zeke Martinez, our new golf professional who offered golf lessons to all guests wished to learn about the game or to master their golf swings. After the tournament, we also welcomed Mr. Riccardo Cotarella – a well-known oenologist, who has recently become Antognolla’s consultant for the vineyards, and generously provided wines for the event from its winery Famiglia Cotarella and offered a wine tasting as an introduction to local gastronomy. To finish off this special day, our guests enjoyed a classic Antognolla cocktail party held in full view of our historic 12th century Castello di Antognolla, which will soon be transformed into a luxury 5-star hospitality project with a focus on sustainability and heritage preservation.

Commenting on the event, Luca Aiwerioghene, Senior Construction Manager at Antognolla Resort and Residences, said: “We were delighted to welcome guests and partners to IV Antognolla Open tournament not only because the site offers great golf experience, but also to show the hospitality project development progress. The resort has recently started its transformation, as work commences on-site for what has become one of the most anticipated hospitality developments in Italy with sustainability at its core. Antognolla Resort and Residences is a truly unique development: the facilities, location and exceptional service levels will make this resort a global leader in country resorts and will open up a new tourism market segment for Umbria”.

During the prize-giving ceremony, Mr. Riccardo Cotarella said: “I am proud to be part of this project. Wine is the most beautiful Umbrian emblem. In Umbria we have many treasures, but the biggest flaw, perhaps, is that we do not know how to describe them. We planted the first wine plants this year and in the nearest future, we will offer a unique Antognolla wine experience to our guests, and they will be able to witness the process of cultivation, harvesting, production and aging of the vineyards. Soon we will all drink Antognolla wine”.

We are already looking forward to our fifth edition next year!
